101 Engineer Regiment Regimental Association Gathers for Memorable 2026 Annual Dinner
HEADCORN, KENT — Members, veterans, and guests of the 101 Engineer Regiment Regimental Association gathered on Saturday, 26th September 2026, at the Weald of Kent Golf Course and Hotel for their highly anticipated Annual Dinner.
The evening served as a poignant occasion for camaraderie, fine dining, and shared remembrance, dedicated in special memory of two esteemed former Commanding Officers of the Regiment: Major General Aidan Smyth and Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Squibb.
Some forty eight people attended the event, seated at six tables of eight.
A regimental history section was displayed in the anti-room together with our newly refurbished 1st Middlesex Regiment bass drum.
Proceedings commenced at 18:30 hrs with a welcoming reception featuring sparkling wine, allowing old friends and comrades to reconnect ahead of the formal proceedings.
Guests sat down at 19:00 hrs for a carefully curated menu.
The dining experience opened with a choice of a prawn and avocado tian or a heritage beetroot, goat’s cheese, and balsamic reduction starter.
This was followed by a main course of free-range chicken breast with fondant potato, tenderstem broccoli, wild mushrooms, and cep velouté—or a vegetarian alternative of shallot tart tatin with potato terrine and chantney carrots.
Dessert featured a rich dark chocolate marquise with Chantilly cream and caramelised white chocolate, concluding with a traditional cheeseboard and port alongside coffee, tea, and mints.
True to the spirit of the Association, the evening provided a wonderful opportunity to honor the Regiment’s proud heritage, share stories, and celebrate the enduring bonds formed through service.
As carriages arrived at 23:00 hrs, attendees departed with fond memories of a successful evening celebrating the fellowship that continues to define the 101 Engineer Regiment community.
